HJCHEM PTFE/PFA-lined filter reactors are designed for corrosive chemical and pharmaceutical processes requiring reaction, agitation, solid-liquid filtration, cake washing, reslurry washing and wet-cake discharge in one enclosed vessel.
The stainless-steel vessel provides mechanical strength, while PTFE or PFA protects the process-contact surfaces from corrosive media.
The allowable temperature, pressure and vacuum level are not determined by PTFE or PFA alone. They depend on the lining method, bonding system, liner thickness, vessel design and actual process conditions.
HJCHEM therefore selects the lining construction according to the customer’s chemical medium, concentration, maximum operating temperature, pressure and vacuum requirements.
Process functions: Reaction · Agitation · Filtration · Cake Washing · Reslurry Washing · Wet-Cake Discharge
In-vessel cake drying: Not included

PTFE/PFA Lining Temperature and Pressure
PTFE and PFA fluoropolymers themselves can have continuous service temperatures of up to approximately 260°C, but this does not mean that every PTFE- or PFA-lined vessel can operate at this temperature.
The actual operating limit depends strongly on the lining technology.
For example, depending on the specific bonding system, some bonded lining designs is limited to approximately 80–120°C, while specially engineered bonded, loose-lined or mechanically fixed fluoropolymer lining systems can be suitable for 200°C or above.
Pressure and vacuum capability also depend on the vessel and lining structure. A lined vessel should therefore be evaluated according to the actual operating conditions rather than assigned a single universal temperature or pressure rating.
PTFE/PFA Lining or PFA Coating
HJCHEM provides both lining and coating stainless-steel reactor, which can provide excellent corrosion protection, but the correct choice depends on the application.
PTFE/PFA lining uses fluoropolymer sheets or liners installed inside the metal vessel. Different lining methods are available, and their temperature, pressure and vacuum capabilities vary significantly depending on the construction.
PFA coating forms a fluoropolymer protective layer directly on the metal surface and can be useful for certain vessel geometries and corrosive applications.
Neither option should be selected based on temperature alone. HJCHEM evaluates the chemical medium, concentration, operating temperature, pressure/vacuum, vessel size and process requirements before recommending the suitable corrosion-resistant construction.
Feeding, Vacuum and Filtration Design for Lined Vessels
Vacuum operation is not automatically prohibited for PTFE/PFA-lined vessels.
However, negative pressure creates a pressure difference between the liner and the metal shell. If the lining is not designed for vacuum service, this may cause blistering, deformation or separation of the liner.
For applications requiring vacuum filtration, the lining and vessel structure must therefore be designed and confirmed for the required vacuum level.
Where the selected lining system is not suitable for vacuum, alternative configurations can include:
- Pneumatic diaphragm pump feeding
- Positive-pressure filtration
The filtration method is selected together with the lining design rather than treated as a fixed limitation of PTFE or PFA.

- Pharmaceutical intermediates
- Fine and specialty chemicals
- Acid and alkali processes
- Corrosive slurry reaction and filtration
- Product isolation and washing
- Catalyst or solid-product recovery
- Peptide cleavage and SPPS-related processing
Final lining or coating selection should be confirmed according to the actual chemical medium, concentration, temperature, pressure, and batch conditions.
What We Need for Selection
To select the appropriate PTFE/PFA lining and filter reactor configuration, please provide:
Chemical medium and concentration · Batch volume · Maximum operating temperature · Working pressure and/or vacuum level · Slurry viscosity · Solids content · Required filtration accuracy · Agitation requirements
Based on these conditions, HJCHEM will recommend the appropriate vessel construction, lining system, filtration method, feeding system and wet-cake discharge configuration.
